Live show: Stranded BD migrant workers in Vietnam seeking justice

Sojakotha Report: The 27 stranded Bangladeshi migrant workers seeking justice against the mafia’s of man power businesses who sent them to Vietnam through visit visa. They alleged they didn’t get any support from Bangladesh embassy in Hanoi. They were in tears and argued the authorities of Bangladesh to take them back. In a live talk show they gave descriptions how they were victimised.

Among other Mr Nur Khan Liton Advisor Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) from Bangladesh, Migrant activist Mohammad Harun Al Rashid from Malaysia along with some victims from Vietnam joined the live programme. Mr Harun immediately try to do something to feed them and he gave emphasis to a strong campaign to address the issue and advised the workers to contact the minister directly.
Mr Nur Khan has given emphasis on more media coverage of that issue and proper documentation which he hopes to initiate legal action against govt and non government concerned persons and officials.

The victims told that In December 2019 and in the month of January 2020 more than 100 Bangladeshi were taken to Ho Chi Min city . Some of them had tourist visas and the rest of the workers took arrival visa at Ho Chi Min city airport. They were received by the people of recruiting agencies or agents not by any company official. Then they were sent to the factories through the dalal ( agent) on availability of work basis .

Alamgir from Feni and one of the 27 victims said that in May 2020 they were able to contact the Bangladesh Embassy and they had been requesting to save them from the dalal ( agent) and to send them back to Bangladesh.

He added, lastly, on Friday (03.07.20) some Bangladeshi came to Bangladesh Embassy in Hanoi. Bangladesh embassy officials told them to leave the embassy. After they were removed from the embassy, the group of people started to stay in front of the embassy, then local police intervened and took them to three different hotels in three groups.

According to the victims the 27 Bangladeshi now staying there and though some food was provided by the Police but that’s not enough. The day of our live program (5 th July), they were given lunch by police but they were not provided dinner.
They told in the live discussion that they (27 Bangladeshi migrant workers) now want to come back to Bangladesh and they want justice against the Dalals ( agents) and the recruitment agencies, those sent them to Vietnam as workers through tourist visas. They alleged the Man Power Authority gave them permission and clearance which were in fact fake.

Shitol Chandra Sarkar said that the Immigration in Hazrat Shah Jalal Airport earlier didn’t want to allow them to fly but later some phone calls came to the concerned officers and at the last moment their tiny groups were allowed to board the flights. It could be mentioned here workers were sent in small groupwise of oftenly 5/6 people together.

He told that the strandred 27 workers now stay in the hotel without enough food and accomodation. BD embassy was not giving any support to them. Even the mafia ( the leader of the agent) Mostofa and his partners were so influential that including Vietnamesse police and other concerned govt department in Ho Chi Minh didn’t give them any support and it was observed by the victims that those were somehow managed by the Mafia’s ( the leader of the broker or agent). He alleged that he was feeling insecure about life as he was threatened by the Mafia’s(*already mentioned).
